MASK ORDERS: Where are masks mandatory to wear in the Tampa Bay area?

FLORIDA — As COVID-19 cases continue to surge throughout Florida many counties and cities are beginning to mandate that both residents and visitors wear masks to help prevent further spread of the virus.

Below ABC Action News has compiled a list of which counties and cities in the Tampa Bay area are requiring masks to be worn. Please note that if a countywide order is issued, cities within that county must follow the order. Cities can create rules that are more restrictive than the countywide rules, but not less.

Hillsborough County
Everyone inside a for-profit business that is open to the public must wear a mask when social distancing cannot be maintained. The executive order went into effect Wednesday, June 24 at 5 p.m.

Pinellas County
Pinellas County commissioners approved a new mandatory face mask ordinance as COVID-19 continues to be a threat to the community. The ordinance went into effect Wednesday, June 24 at 5 p.m.

Pasco County
On Tuesday, June 23, Pasco County Administrator Dan Biles issued a mandatory face-covering order for businesses and government buildings, which is effective immediately.

Polk County
Currently, there is not a mandatory mask ordinance in place.

Sarasota County
Currently, there is not a mandatory mask ordinance in place.

  • Sarasota: City leaders passed an ordinance making masks mandatory for both indoor businesses and outdoor public spaces where social distancing is not possible. The order goes into effect Wednesday, July 1 at 12:01 a.m.

Citrus County
Currently, there is not a mandatory mask ordinance in place.

DeSoto County
Currently, there is not a mandatory mask ordinance in place.

Hardee County
Currently, there is not a mandatory mask ordinance in place.

Hernando County
Currently, there is not a mandatory mask ordinance in place.

Highlands County
Currently, there is not a mandatory mask ordinance in place.

Manatee County
County Commissioners voted to promote the surgeon general’s recommendations that everyone “should” wear a mask when social distancing is not possible. However, it is not a requirement in the county. Commissioners also voted to support businesses that require patrons to wear masks.

  • Anna Maria:
    • An executive order requiring face coverings indoors when not able to maintain social distancing from others.
      • The order will be re-evaluated every six to seven days.
