CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Clearwater Police Department said one person has died and another was hospitalized after a construction-related accident at the site of a new Publix.
The City of Clearwater said the man who was taken to Morton Plant Hospital died less than an hour after arrival. The other man was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital and is "thought to have injuries that are not life-threatening." They were both on trauma alerts, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified.
The victim, who was taken to Morton Plant Hospital and died, was later identified as Victor Hugo Martinez Gelves from Davenport.
The Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to 1295 S. Missouri Ave. after the call came in at 4:55 p.m.
