DADE CITY, Fla. — A man is dead after a deputy-involved shooting in Dade City on Tuesday night.
The Pasco Sheriff's Office said around 8:25 p.m., deputies attempted to serve Cristian Javier Estrada Perez, 25, an ex parte order at a home near Rose Avenue. The order was issued by a court at the request of his family due to threats.
PSO said Perez was inside the home and would not respond to multiple attempts at contact.
Deputies then attempted to de-escalate the situation, but eventually deployed pepper balls. Shortly after, PSO said Perez shot a gun multiple times at deputies, who then returned fire, hitting and killing Perez.
Perez died at the scene. No deputies were injured during the incident.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting, per protocol. The deputies who fired their guns were also placed on paid administrative leave.
PSO said there is no public safety threat, but the investigation is ongoing.
Pasco County woman trying to rebuild mobile home after hurricanes
"I cried, of course, because I've worked very hard getting it nice, which has been difficult for me since I lost my husband and being alone,” Kelly Welty said.
Welty's mobile home lost its roof during Hurricane Milton. She said it was the only one in the Buena Vista community to get totaled by a tornado.
