TAMPA, Fla. — The World Meteorological Organization is responsible for naming hurricanes. They have six lists of storm names that they recycle every six years.
- 70% chance first named storm of season could develop in next 5 days, NHC says
- 2020 hurricane season is less than a month away, what you can do to get prepared now
- 'Above-average' hurricane season predicted for 2020
The names get reused, unless the hurricane does exponential damage. For example, Katrina, Sandy, Harvey, Florence and Michael are all retired names.
