Avon Park Representative Cary Pigman was arrested and charged with DUI after Florida Highway Patrol troopers spotted his jeep weaving from lane to lane.
The trooper asked, "Did you have anything to drink tonight?"
Pigman told them "no," but troopers found an open bottle of wine in the car.
Trooper: "What kind of beverage is that?"
Pigman: "Wine."
Trooper: "Wine? Were you drinking that wine tonight?
Pigman: "No."
Trooper: "No? It's open though."
Then as the troopers asked him to walk he nearly fell. During the field sobriety test, he nearly fell again.
According to the arrest report, Pigman blew a 0.15, which is nearly double the legal blood alcohol limit to drive.
The arrest happened in March. Now, calls are growing for Rep. Pigman, who is an emergency medicine physician and a decorated war Veteran, to resign.
Questions are also being raised about whether House leadership went too easy on Pigman who, despite the dash cam evidence, pleaded not guilty.
His only consequence was he was forced to resign his chairmanship of the house health quality subcommittee.
We asked representative Pig man if he plans to step down. He responded with this email:
"I apologize to my family, my constituents, and my fellow legislative members for my error in march. I am extremely grateful that no one was harmed and no property was damaged. I will strive to become a better person. I remain committed to serving the people of my 55th district and the people of the state of Florida. Cary"
