TAMPA — A Tampa woman said someone broke into her home, stealing more than $50,000 worth of jewelry.
The burglary happened last week. She lives in the Beach Park neighborhood near Kennedy and Westshore.
“It makes you feel so unsafe and, are they going to be waiting next time,” the Tampa woman said.
She did not want ABC Action News to use her name. Detectives said they do not have any information on a suspect, but they confirm the burglary happened.
“I just felt like somebody was watching the house because usually somebody is there,” she said.
She said she and her husband were not home all day.
“It was almost like they had tons of time and they knew it,” she said.
The woman noticed a window open when she returned home that day. She immediately knew something was wrong. She called the police.
“Our windows are never open so I’m like 'God this is kind of creepy,'” she said.
Some of the items that were stolen were things she inherited. The crook even stole silver dollar coins.
“They are 1892 through about 1923 silver dollars, and my grandfather had given me one, and said you need to start collecting these,” she said.
The Tampa Police Department is investigating the case. They urge people to keep an inventory of the items inside their home, including serial numbers. They also said you should take pictures and video of those valuables. You can store that information on their app.
“Obviously I would like a few things back…that would be the best. I just don’t want.....I don’t want anyone to come in ever again,” she said.
