The bad weather from Tropical Storm Emily caused all kinds of traffic headaches around Tampa Bay Monday.
There was a very close call near downtown Tampa involving a tractor trailer.
“The driver lost control ran up over the guard rail. And as you can see right here, it’s come to a final rest,” said Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Steve Gaskins.
Two wheels were hanging over the side of the ramp. Thankfully the trailer didn’t go any further.
The driver, who was hauling fencing material made it out ok. It happened as the he was exiting off I-4 west onto I-275.
Lanes to the ramp were blocked as crews worked to get the truck off the edge. Eventually a wrecker came and lifted it back on the highway.
Wet roads made for a dangerous day.
“People of course need to drive with caution. Headlights on. No flashers,” said Gaskins.
The other major traffic issue involved the Sunshine Skyway. It was closed because of high winds gusting at more than 60 miles an hour. It finally reopened just after 2 p.m.
All around the Bay area rain lead to accidents.
And in the usual spots that see flooding like Snell Isle, all that water made driving a challenge.
Gaskins said this a good reminder to make sure your wipers and tires are in good working condition.
He added to slow down and add some more space between you and the car ahead of you.
