Police chase in Tampa ends in crash, arrests

A 19-year-old led Tampa police on a short crash in a stolen vehicle before he crashed at Florida Ave. and South Street. in Tampa, authorities said.
 
Tampa police said Jessie Stephenson, 19, was the driver of the stolen vehicle. He was arrested on charges of fleeing to elude, grand theft auto, no valid driver's license, resist arrest without violence, felon in possession of a firearm and violation of probation - robbery.
 
Stephenson and two other teenagers were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, a Tampa Police Department news release states. In addition to Stephenson, a second teen was arrested for an active juvenile arrest warrant.
 
The third teenager was released with no charges to his parents.
 
According to police, the car was stolen 2 days ago.
 
An officer spotted the stolen car and pursued it. The driver then fled hitting another car causing him to lose control and hit a light post. 
 
The citizen driver suffered from minor injuries, but is going to be okay, police said.

Three suspects involved have been arrested. The 19 year-old driver and 17 year-old and 13 year-old passengers. 

Florida Ave., which was closed in both directions for several hours while TECO replaces a power pole, has reopened.
