One year later, family still hopes to find answers to unsolved Tampa murder

It's been exactly one year since a Tampa man was gunned down in broad daylight, and his murder has still not been solved. The family of Marquette Dames is gathering Thursday night to remember him and keep the case alive.

On July 6, 2016, Police responded to a shooting behind a Checkers location at 15th and Fowler.

TPD said a shooter opened fire on 24-year-old Marquette Dames behind the restaurant before riding away from the scene on a bicycle. Dames, died of his injuries at the hospital the following day.

Police told ABC Action News that video captured of the murder suspect riding down the street on a bike before the shooting will be key to making an arrest in the case.

It's the best clue investigators have to go on. The family of Marquette Dames believes someone knows who the shooter is.

 

 

The family plans to hold a vigil Thursday night near Fowler Avenue and 15th Street were Dames was shot.

Police don't believe it was a random attack. Anyone with information is urged to come forward and call TPD at 813-231-6130 if they anything about the incident or who the shooter might be.
