TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. — When Jacky Besio gets a text message sent to her, it usually includes pictures of bugs.

“There’s a lot of things that just woke up because it was really cold there for a little while. And now it’s really warm.”

The owner of Precision Pest Prevention says the warms temps are keeping her busy dealing with termites and many other bugs.

There are complaints of trails of ants going in and out of homes.

And she says fleas and mosquitoes are going to be a whole lot of fun this summer.

Rats are another popular pest right now.

“They snuck in when it was real cold and nobody noticed,” she said.

Besio says there are ways to battle the bugs before you call the pros in.

While doing cleaning, check windows and doors for openings and gaps that creatures can come in.

Seal them up with foam or caulk. And make sure screens are secured.

Also trim bushes and trees so they don’t touch the house.

And there are non-toxic materials you can use too.

For example, she says spiders don’t like peppermint oil.

So if you feel like you’ve been seeing more bugs than normal, you are not alone.

You can thank that short winter.
