Detectives are investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run crash.
Lt. Edward Borrelli said the man, who was killed, was a 25-year-old man. The crash happened near 34 Street South and 15th Avenue South.
Detectives have had more than 25 traffic related fatalities this year and about a dozen of them involved pedestrians.
"We tell drivers to slow down. (We tell them to) try not to be distracted (and) get off the cell phone. (Stop) texting (and take out your) ear buds. We tell pedestrians wear bright clothing (and) carry a flashlight, if they can (or) have a flashing beacon -something that's going to identify them as a pedestrian, walking in the street. We also tell them use crosswalks, when they're available," Lt. Borrelli said.
Detectives are speaking with witnesses and checking nearby surveillance cameras. A description of the car has not been released at this time.
Anyone with information should call the St. Petersburg Police Department.
