Two men dead following two shootings just blocks apart in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating two separate shootings, which occurred early Tuesday morning and left two men dead.

Police said the first shooting happened at 3:19 a.m. in the 1000th block 13th Avenue South in St. Petersburg.

During this shooting, a woman called 911 to report that someone had shot her husband, 34-year-old Lorenzo Brunson, in their home while they were sleeping. Brunson was pronounced dead shortly after police and paramedics arrived.

The second shooting happened "roughly an hour and 20 minutes" later in the 1200th block of 10th Avenue, police said.

Police said they received several calls about shots being fired. When they arrived they found 39-year-old William Gilbert shot in the street. He was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

RECOMMENDED:

Police later arrested 32-year-old Anthony Bridges in connection with the shooting on 13th Avenue South. Bridges is charged with First Degree Murder.

Detectives said Bridges and Brunson knew each other and the deadly shooting stemmed from an argument.
