PASCO COUNTY, FLA - Deputies issued a major warning to sport bike riders Wednesday.

In the past, deputies were issuing warnings to offenders who were caught speeding or driving recklessly, but now deputies will hand out citations.

Deputies said while they believe this may have been going on for a while, about two to three weeks ago they started receiving complaints about a problem from people in several neighborhoods.

According to authorities, the area where they have seen people speeding and riding recklessly is known as the North Run area. The troubled roads are Collier Parkway, Parkway Boulevard by Lake Padgett, and Ehren Cutoff.

Deputies plan to have more manpower in those areas and they will be using their helicopter.

Deputies said while most riders follow the law, there is a small percentage that don’t.

“Hey we get it. We know the roads are great. The (scenery is) great, but you gotta ride within the law,” Deputy Ricardo Ortiz said.

Deputy Ortiz reminds riders there are designated areas in the state where they can go and they will not be breaking the law.
