HUDSON, Fla. — Just released body camera video from the Pasco Sheriff's Office shows deputies chasing a stolen car and the spectacular crash that followed.
The suspected car thief is just 14-years-old.
Deputies say the middle schooler grabbed keys from Golden Oldies Auto Sales in Hudson.
Then he used those keys to steal one of their cars.
Pasco deputies thought they had the driver boxed in on US 19.
But that’s when the suspected car thief swerved around one deputy and hit the gas.
Seconds later as another deputy tried to put stop sticks down on the road, the driver loses control of the Mazda 6.
In the video, you see the stolen car slam into three street signs and roll over twice in a ditch.
Even after that major crash, the driver gets out and runs through a shopping plaza parking lot.
The chase doesn’t last long.
Deputies get the teen down on the ground and in handcuffs.
You can even hear people in the plaza applauding the deputy's efforts.
The Pasco Sheriff's Office reports more than 500 car thefts this year.
At least 55 of them involved a juvenile.
