TAMPA, Fla. — Authorities have arrested one suspect in a triple murder arson case while the search continues for a second.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28-year-old Xavier Whitehead Saturday morning. He's been charged with armed burglary, first-degree arson and tampering with physical evidence.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue initially responded to 16th Avenue near Margaret Street around 4 p.m. November 15 in reference to a house fire. Inside the home, firefighters found the bodies of Dereck Archie, 32, Xavier Greene, 28, and Haley Stone, 20.
Authorities say all the victims suffered upper body trauma,
Law enforcement released this surveillance video of a man walking away from the home holding what appeared to be a gas can as well as video of a car leaving the scene.
Whitehead has not been charged with murder, authorities say he was one of two men seen in this previously released surveillance video.
Following his arrest, Whitehead was taken to Tampa General Hospital for unrelated medical issues. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
Whitehead served time in state prison for robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault. He was released from jail in May of 2017.
