UPDATE:

After the successful rescue and relocation of seven manatees in Crystal River on Thursday, the FWC and partners returned to the same location on Friday to rescue and relocate a young male manatee.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Crews from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission removed seven manatees stranded in a pond on the Plantation on Crystal River golf course on Thursday.

The manatees ended up in the pond when high flood waters from Hurricane Hermine receded, leaving the aquatic mammals stranded.

One manatee was caught in an outflow tunnel after the strong force of the water prevented her from swimming away. FWC and golf course employees placed boards in front of the outflow to reduce the water pressure.

The manatees are expected to be released back into Kings Bay, their natural habitat, Thursday.
