Many of us are looking for ways to be active while also staying socially distanced from others. That is why Sarah Phinney started a ‘Walking Club’ to highlight some hidden, and some not so hidden, trails across the Tampa Bay area that are great places for you and your family to check out.

Visit Cypress Point Park with your family this weekend. This urban oasis in the City of Tampa has a lot to offer, including a walking trail and a white sand beach. Plus, it's a great place to watch planes land!

Where is it?
Cypress Point Park can be found on Old Tampa Bay in the City of Tampa. Plug this address into your phone: 5620 W Cypress St. Tampa, FL 33607.

You have to drive through a business park to get there. There are signs along the way to ensure you’re headed in the right direction.

Be prepared to hear and see lots of planes landing! The park is located just south of Tampa International Airport.

What’s there?

The 40-acre park has a paved trail. There is a nice amount of shade so it's a good place to visit on a warm day. Click here for a map.

“A lot of people come here to use the trails, but also to utilize the connection to the Courtney Campbell Trail,” said Brad Suder, Superintendent of Planning & Design for City of Tampa Parks and Recreation.

The Veterans Memorial Trail/Skyway Park Trail is just north of the Cypress Point Park off of Cypress Street. The 1.3-mile connection will take you to the Courtney Campbell Trail. But, Suder says bikers and walkers should plan to be back to their cars before the sun goes down because it’s not lit.

Visitors will also find a coveted white sand beach, playground, shelters, disc golf course and sand volleyball court. There’s also a canoe and kayak launch, as well as restrooms.

Dogs are not allowed on the beach.

When should I visit?

The park is open from sunrise to sunset. The beach is a great place to catch a sunset!
