PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — After a deadly accident on U.S. 19 in Cleawater, many people were left wondering if left-hand turns should be eliminated on the busy stretch of highway.

RELATED: Should left turns be restricted on US 19 at non-signalized intersections?

FDOT is continuing to review each corridor on a case by case basis, however, we now know a portion of U.S. 19 in Clearwater is getting an overhaul.

More overpasses will be coming to the stretch from Main Street (SR 580) to just north of Curlew Road.

The design, released to ABC Action News, will include a median barrier that will require drivers to make turns on frontage roads and interchanges (similar to U.S.19 further South in Clearwater.)

RECOMMENDED: FDOT restricts left hand turns in dangerous section of US-19

A pedestrian underpass will be constructed between Evans Road and Republic Drive. FDOT tells us that this is a new feature that they hope will allow pedestrians access to cross U.S. 19.

An overpass will be at Boy Scout Road and Curlew Road.

Officials say construction is already funded and expected to start late Fall 2021.
