Florida shattered its daily record for new cases of COVID-19 again Thursday, as the Department of Health recorded more than 10,000 new cases.

The 10,109 new cases beat the previous record by a little over 500 cases.

The DOH also reported 67 new deaths in Thursday's report.

The state now has a grand total of 169,106 positive cases and 3,617 deaths from the coronavirus pandemic.

Just over 15,000 people have been hospitalized so far.

The recent spike in new cases has prompted the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) to once again suspend the consumption of alcohol on the premises at bars on Friday morning.

Despite the spike in cases, Governor Ron DeSantis says there are no plans to issue a statewide mandate to make people wear masks in public places.

"To do police and put criminal penalties on that is something that is probably gonna, would backfire," Gov. DeSantis said last week.
