Once again I am taking action to help you create a dinner on a budget.
In honor of Father's Day, I want to shower dad with some love by serving up a tasty recipe for "beer can" hamburgers I found on Delish.com.
This week 85% extra lean ground beef is on sale for $3.99 a pound at Sprouts Farmers Market.
You can find ground beef containing more fat at a cheaper price, but it is not as healthy and the higher fat content could interfere with the meat flavor in your burgers.
The recipe uses beer cans to form a bowl in the middle of the burgers that you stuff with bacon, cheddar cheese and jalapeño peppers *or* grilled onions and peppers.
Make sure to pair your burgers with a six-pack of locally brewed beer and dad will be in hog heaven.
Here are the ingredients you will need:
HAMBURGERS
2 lb. ground beef
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 beer can
kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
8 slices bacon
4 burger buns
4 slices tomato
4 pieces lettuce
beer can (to help form bowl in burgers)
TOPPINGS
2 c. cubed cheddar
1 jalapeño, thinly sliced
1 bell pepper, sliced
1 onion, thinly sliced
4 slices provolone
