The Bradenton Police Department arrested a 39-year-old man for aggravated animal abuse on a puppy.

According to police, they responded to 16th Street West for a report of Animal Abuse on Monday. They revealed that the dog owner, Carleau Mesidor, had held up a 3-month-old female black mix puppy named Zoey by its neck by using a black and yellow lanyard. While the puppy was hanging by its neck, Mesidor punched the puppy in the head several times.

Police state that Mesidor abused Zoey because she had chewed on one of his shoes.

Zoey was taken to a forensic veterinarian for a medical evaluation. They revealed Zoey has an orbital fracture and injuries consistent with being held up by the neck and punched.

There were a total of three dogs in this residence that were voluntarily surrendered and custody given over the Manatee County. All dogs are now being medically evaluated.

Mesidor is being charged with Aggravated Animal Abuse (Felony 3rd Degree).
