After asking for a ride, a Hernando County man pulled a knife on an 87-year-old man and stole his car, according to a HCSO report.

The victim said the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old John Summerall of Istachatta, asked for a drink of water and ride because his mother's car broke down.

The victim obliged both requests.

During the ride, the man allegedly pulled out a knife and said "get out or I will kill you" to the victim. After getting out of the car, the victim realized he was in the middle of the woods and tried to stop Summerall from driving off. The victim was thrown to the ground and suffered injuries to his head, arms and body.

A citizen called authorities when she noticed the man lying injured on the side of the road. Emergency crews took him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Deputies located the vehicle totally abandoned near the armed car jacking, and detectives collected enough evidence to identify Summerall as the suspect. The search began immediately, and around 30 hours later, he was behind bars.

According to HCSO, Summerall eventually admitted to the crime. prosecutors have charged him with armed car jacking on a $30,000 bond.
