Hurricane Idalia: Closures, cancellations

The Tampa Bay area is preparing for Hurricane Idalia, which is forecast to become a major Category 3 storm before it makes landfall.

As the storm approaches Florida, we're keeping track of local closures and cancellations.

HURRICANE RESOURCES

9:06 p.m.

AdventHealth Medical latest closures and schedule changes.

AdventHealth Medical Group:

• Hillsborough County Physician Practices: Reopening to patients at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, 8/30, depending on weather and road conditions.
• Pasco County Physician Practices: Closed for Wednesday, 8/30. Resuming normal business hours on Thursday, 8/31.
• Pinellas County Physician Practices: Closed for Wednesday, 8/30. Resuming normal business hours on Thursday, 8/31.
• Polk County Physician Practices: Reopening to patients at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, 8/30.
• Highlands County Physician Practices: Reopening to patients at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, 8/30.
• Hardee County Physician Practices: Reopening to patients at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, 8/30.
• Marion County Physician Practices: Closed for Wednesday, 8/30. Resuming normal business hours on Thursday, 8/31.

• Marion and Pasco County Care Pavilions: Closed for Wednesday, 8/30. Resuming normal business hours on Thursday, 8/31.

• Hillsborough County Clinics: Reopening to patients at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, 8/30.
• Hernando, Pasco, Pinellas, County Clinics: Closed for Wednesday, 8/30. Resuming normal business hours on Thursday, 8/31.

Closed Health Care Locations:

• AdventHealth North Pinellas: In a proactive response to the threat posed by Hurricane Idalia, AdventHealth North Pinellas successfully evacuated more than 60 patients to other AdventHealth facilities on Tuesday, 8/29. Patients should use the AdventHealth Palm Harbor Emergency Room, located at 34106 US Hwy 19 N, Palm Harbor, FL 34684.
• AdventHealth Wesley Chapel Wellness Center: The Wellness Center closed on Tuesday, 8/29, at 5 p.m. and will remain closed on Wednesday, 8/30. The Wellness Center will reopen Thursday, 8/31 at 5 a.m. or when it is safe to return. Inspiration Place, Outpatient Therapy, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab, and Wound Care will also be temporarily closed.
• AdventHealth CentraCare Urgent Care Centers: The seven AdventHealth West Florida Division Urgent Care locations closed on Tuesday, 8/29 at 5 p.m. and will reopen for regular business hours on Wednesday, 8/30.

6:06 p.m.

Publix closed many of its stores in the area at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The stores are expected to reopen Wednesday pending local conditions. Publix provides this interactive map to check the status of stores near your home.

5:50 p.m.

The Hardee County School District will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. The district plans to reopen on Thursday.

A general population shelter at Hardee Junior High School (2405 US Hwy 17 N, Wauchula, FL 33873) and Hilltop Elementary School (2401 Hwy 17, Wauchula, FL 33873) and a pet shelter at Bowling Green Elementary School (4530 Church Ave., Bowling Green, FL 33834) will open Wednesday at 11 a.m.

5:20 p.m.

Venice sandbag operations at Wellfield Park have ended after reaching capacity.

Humphris Park/South Jetty, Venice Fishing Pier, and the Children’s Fountain at Centennial Park are currently closed. City Hall, Venice Museum, bill pay areas at Public Works and Utilities, and the VPD lobby will be closed to the public on Wednesday.

There will be no trash collections on Wednesday. The city recommends securing your garbage and recycling carts in your garage, carports, or behind your home until after Idalia passes.

5:15 p.m.

Sarasota County announced multiple closures Tuesday as Idalia continues to strengthen.

All solid waste collection services scheduled for Tuesday have been canceled. Collection services for garbage, recycling and yard waste for the remainder of the week will be delayed by at least one day. The county will assess conditions after the storm passes to determine when services will resume.

The Central County Landfill and all Solid Waste facilities are currently closed as well.

Sarasota County schools will be closed on Wednesday.

The county has paused breeze bus services.

All Sarasota County government offices are closed through Wednesday.

Sarasota County Commission meetings for Aug. 29, and Aug. 30, will be rescheduled.

Reservations for county facilities are canceled through Wednesday.

Sarasota County libraries are closed through Wednesday.

Sandbag operations have concluded.

Sarasota County 311 is open until 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Sarasota County Fire Department will reschedule the informational meeting series about proposed fire assessment rate changes.

4:45 p.m.

The self-serve sandbag station at the George Mullen Activity Center in North Port is now closed.

A total of seven truckloads of sand and about 7,000 sandbags were distributed to help residents prepare for the storm.

4:25 p.m.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue will close two fire stations located in Evacuation Zone A ahead of Idalia. Employees from these locations will be reassigned to surrounding stations at 8 p.m. today.

Hillsborough Area Rapid Transit (HART) service will be shut down on Wednesday and may resume, if weather permitting, on Thursday.

Closed fire stations include:

  • Station 15, located at 715 S. 58th St. Tampa, FL 33619
    • The personnel and fire engine will go to Station 32, located at 5808 Harney Rd., Tampa, FL 33610
    • The personnel and ambulance will go to Station 37, located at 5602 Providence Rd., Riverview, FL 33578
  • Station 31, located at 8901 Memorial Hwy., Tampa, FL 33615
    • The personnel and fire engine will go to Station 35, located at 10401 Countryway Blvd., Tampa, FL 33626
    • The personnel and ambulance will go to Station 38, located at 9755 Sheldon Rd., Tampa, FL 33635

4 p.m.

The City of Gulfport has closed numerous city facilities, including Gulfport City Hall, Gulfport Public Library, Gulfport Casino, Gulfport Recreation Center, Gulfport Senior Center, Gulfport Municipal Marina, and the Community Development Department.

In addition, the Williams Pier is closed and the city's self-service sandbag location at the 49th Street Neighborhood Center is closed.

Public Works Regular Sanitation and Recycling pickup on Tuesday is closed as well.

AdventHealth North Pinellas completed its evacuation efforts early Tuesday afternoon. The hospital evacuated more than 60 patients to other AdventHealth facilities.

3:30 p.m.

Florida Blue and its parent company GuideWell have a number of clinical partners across the state. Here are some of those whose operations are being impacted by the storm.

  • The five Florida Blue Center locations across West Florida remain closed today, Tuesday Aug. 29 and tomorrow, Wednesday Aug. 30.
  • The three Diagnostic Clinic Medical Group [dc-fl.com] locations in Pinellas County will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday Aug. 30.
  • The five Sanitas Medical Center [mysanitas.com] locations across West Florida will close today, Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 4:00 p.m. and will provide virtual health support the remainder of the day. These locations will be closed on and will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 30. Patients with scheduled appointments on Wednesday should call to discuss a virtual option or rescheduling.
  • The GuideWell Emergency Doctors [guidewellemergency.com] locations in Pinellas County will close today, Tuesday, Aug. 29. at 4:00 p.m. All Hillsborough locations remain open.

11 a.m.

The Saddle Creek Campground in Polk County is closing Tuesday and is expected to stay closed through Wednesday. All other county campgrounds remain open.

8 a.m.

AdventHealth North Pinellas is evacuating its hospital in Tarpon Springs ahead of Idalia out of an abundance of caution. All elective procedures taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday have been canceled. Patients are being moved to other hospitals in the area by 12 p.m. on Tuesday.

The ER at the location will stay open until 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The AdventHealth ER in Palm Harbor will stay open indefinitely.


10:30 p.m.

AdventHealth will be having closures and schedule changes starting Tuesday, Aug. 29.

6:30 p.m.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay will be closed starting Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 3 p.m. through Wednesday, Aug. 30. The park plans to reopen Thursday, Aug. 31.

Sarasota Government offices are closed through Wednesday, Aug. 30.

2:15 p.m.

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport will close at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29. The airport plans to reopen at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30. The airport is in a mandatory evacuation zone.

2 p.m.

Boys & Girls Club of Tampa Bay locations in Hillsborough and Pasco counties will close Tuesday, Aug. 29 and Wednesday, Aug. 30.

The City of Tarpon Springs will close all facilities, including City Hall, Community Center, and Library starting Tuesday, Aug. 29. Facilities will reopen Thursday, Aug. 31.

11:30 a.m.

Tampa International Airport will suspend all commercial operations starting at 12:01 a.m. The airport will stay closed until any damage the storm may cause can be assessed.
