FLORIDA — As the peak of hurricane season slowly approaches, Florida leaders are asking residents to make an emergency plan in case the tropics get busier.

If you're unsure how to make an emergency plan or what it should consist of the Florida Division of Emergency Management urges you to visit their website which helps you create a family, business or special needs plan.

To get started you must first decide whether you want to create a profile that will allow you to later update your plan or simply create a plan that you can save and print as a PDF document.

Create a profile to be able to save, retrieve and later easily update your plan

Once you've chosen how you want to proceed all you have to do is click one of the plans and enter some information that will help the site personalize a plan for you. The plan will include things like evacuation zones and routes and what you should include in your emergency kit.

If you're worried about what happens with the information you enter, the website states:

"Information provided through this website for the purposes of building family and/or business emergency plans is therefore exempt from public records requests made of the Division and is only used for the express purpose of allowing visitors to this website to build and maintain family and/or business emergency plans."
