About 50-percent of the homes in Highlands County were still without power as of Saturday evening. Duke energy officials said nearly every customer in Highlands County lost power during Hurricane Irma.
“We still really need ice, gas, food and water,” said Monica Leonard.
We toured the area near Leonard’s home. Trees still littered the streets in Placid Lakes and even a road was washed away.
Governor Rick Scott met with Highlands County leaders on Saturday afternoon. He said FEMA resources should be to the area soon.
“If you have not been seeing FEMA people here I will work on getting them here,” said Scott.
Duke Energy representatives believe all homes in Highlands County will have power by Tuesday.
