TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa Police are investigating after a car rolls over and plunges into waters off the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
The incident happened just before 4 p.m. on a road off the Causeway and across from the boat ramp. So far, TPD is calling it an accident. They say the driver lost control of his white truck. Tire marks were visible where the crash occurred. Police pointed out the driver ran over the median and kept driving into the area designated only for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The car then plunged off the pavement into the rocks and water below, rolling over. The roof and hood crushed in the process. TPD says the driver was not hurt. The driver of the truck exited the car himself. An officer witnessed the crash happened.
The car was pulled out of the waters and towed away. At this time TPD has not released what caused the driver to lose control. Once the car was pulled out of the water, reporter Isabel Rosales saw one of the tires blown out. TPD is investigating whether or not alcohol was a factor.
