Rays fans started tailgating outside of the "Trop" five hours before the first pitch was ever thrown.

"It is the best of days, it's like a holiday," said Randi Dixon.

Dixon said she's been to every home opener since 1998 with her friend Beth Benson.

"It's a tradition that we have and it's great," said Dixon.

More than 30-thousand fans joined Benson and Dixon inside the Trop when the first pitch was thrown early Sunday afternoon.  Chris Archer was the starting pitcher for Tampa Bay.

Many fans said they are expecting great things from the team this season.

"Everybody is excited about the new team, there's a lot of questions to be answered and we are going to start answering them today," said Mark Ferguson.

The Rays are rolling out new deals for fans this year.
