IndyCar driver Bryan Clauson has died following a horrific crash he was involved in on Saturday night in Belleville, Kansas.
Clauson, 27, was driving in the 39th annual Belleville Nationals when his car hit the guard rail and flipped several times. His car then spun back into the flow of traffic and he was violently struck by another driver.
It took about 30 minutes to get Clauson out of the car, and friends and family say he was breathing on his own when he was airlifted to Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln, NE.
More than 12 hours after the crash, Clauson's family released a statement via Facebook Sunday afternoon.
The racing world is mourning the loss of the USAC star.
No words to describe how sad the racing community is this morning. RIP @BryanClauson
