Tampa Bay Lightning trade Valtteri Filppula to Philadelphia Flyers minutes before trade deadline

The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded away F Valterri Filppula to the Philadelphia Flyers less than an hour away from the trade deadline.

As part of the deal, the Flyers will receive Filppula, as well as a fourth round selection in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional 7th round selection in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

The Lightning received defenseman Mark Streit, but he is now being moved to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 4th round pick in 2018. The deal also clears $5 million in cap space for the Bolts.

The move came just about 25 minutes before the 3:00 p.m. trade deadline, and just days after the team traded away goalie Ben Bishop to the Kings and Brian Boyle to the Maple Leafs.

When the dust settled, the Lightning had essentially gotten rid of Filppula's contract for nothing. The difference is that the second deal gives the Lightning a 2018 draft pick instead of the 2017 pick they initially traded away.

Mark Streit was a member of the team for roughly 35 minutes before being dealt to Pittsburgh.
