FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Suspects fired multiple shots on Florida deputies during a traffic stop Saturday, Broward Sheriff's officials said.

A license plate reader in Pompano Beach spotted a stolen tag and initially alerted deputies. But when they tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver didn't stop and the suspects fired multiple times on deputies, sheriff's spokeswoman Miranda Grossman said.

It's unclear how many people were in the car and how many fired at the deputies. One of the suspects was injured, but authorities didn't release whether it was from a gunshot.

The Sun Sentinel reports two of the suspects had out-of-state warrants for firearm possession.
