OCALA, Fla. — A student at a high school in Ocala is in custody after it was discovered he had a gun on campus.
It happened at West Port High School. A student alerted the School Resource Officer a 10th grader had a gun.
The officer searched the student's backpack and found an unloaded pistol as well as a loaded magazine.
He was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds and possession of a firearm by a person under 21.
There was a rumor another student had a gun in his vehicle, but the investigation did not produce any additional weapons or arrests, police say.
School was initially on a code yellow but has since resumed and standard release protocol will be followed.
