MTV is cutting ties with "Siesta Key" star Alex Kompothecras due to reports of racist social media posts.
MTV has fired Kompothecras ahead of the show's midseason premiere on Tuesday. MTV released a statement on social media saying the show is editing the current season to minimize Kompothecras' air time. The former cast member will also not be included in future seasons, MTV said.
According to reports from TMZ and E! News, the firing stems from allegations of racist social media posts.
According to MTV's web page, Siesta Key is a reality TV series where "Relationships, ambitions and friendships are put to the test." The show was in the middle of its third season.
MTV tweeted the following statement:
We’ve made the decision to cut ties with Alex and are editing the current season to minimize his presence. He will not be in future seasons of Siesta Key.
