Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a temporary appointment for Clay County Sheriff that is effective immediately.

On Friday, August 14, DeSantis issued an executive order to suspend Darryl Daniels from Clay County Sheriff. This came after Daniels' arrest on Thursday, August 13.

DeSantis appointed Matt Walsh as Interim Clay County Sheriff on Saturday.

The executive order says Daniels was charged with tampering with physical evidence and three counts of false reports to authorities on Thursday, August 13.

Daniels was immediately suspended from the public office, according to the executive order.

"The Information alleges that Darryl Daniels has committed felony acts in violation of the Laws of Florida. This suspension is predicated upon the Information which are incorporated as if fully set forth in this Executive Order," the executive order stated.

Daniels is prohibited from performing any official act, duty or function of public office.
