DELAND, Fla. (AP) — Sheriff’s officials in central Florida say a 12-year-old girl has been injured in an accidental shooting at a home.
Lake County Sheriff’s Lt. John Herrell tells news outlets that detectives are confident the Wednesday night shooting was accidental.
According to an incident report, the girl was with a 7-year-old child on Wednesday night when they found a gun in a bag. They gave it to a woman inside the home. The 32-year-old woman, who wasn’t named in the report, told deputies the gun went off as it was being handed to her.
The girl was shot in the head, but officials said her injuries aren’t considered life threatening.
Deputies are investigating how the child had access to the gun.
