An explosion that sent potentially dangerous smoke into the air caused evacuations at Eglin Air Force Base in Okaloosa County Wednesday.
At 10 a.m. an explosion occured at the McKinley Climatic Lab First responders are on the scene. 1000 ft cordon has been set up.

According to the base, the surrounding area was evacuated because smoke that could have potentially contained methyl chloride was in the area of the explosion.
Nearby residents were asked to turn off their HVAC systems and a shelter was put in place as a safety measure.
Eglin said the potentially hazardous material dissipated and and shelter was lifted at around 1:00.
Officials say there were no significant injuries and the cause of the explosion is under investigation.
