FORT MYERS, Fla.-- Police say a Florida man left his kids in the car, while he went inside a strip club.

Police say the man claimed to only be inside the strip club for a minute or two, but the club's manager says he was in there for much longer.

Now, he's in jail.

According to Christopher Mays, general manager of Scarlett's, he was in there for about 30 to 40 minutes.

A three-year-old and an infant were left in the car

"Three-month-old boy who's not strapped in the car seat, upside-down. Head is where it's butt should be. Feet up in the air," Mays said.

A customer noticed the infant crying and called for help.

"God only knows how much longer an upside down infant has in a car seat," Mays said.

Mays says his staff and the customer helped the three-year-old unlock the car from the inside, getting both kids out safely.

He now faces child neglect charges.

Theresa short, Fort Myers resident said,  "I can't believe he's gonna go to an establishment like that and leave him. He couldn't find a baby-sitter or something? I mean it's... That's just horrible."

Mays, who's also a father, say this is a first at Scarlett's, but adds, "is it a first for that parent? Probably not. I mean if a three-year-old is calm, cool, and relaxed... Why? Why is he so fine being alone in the car like that?"

In addition to the child neglect charges, police say the Department of Children and Families is conducting a follow-up investigation.
