Smokey Junior, a bear cub separated from its mother during a Lake County brush fire, is now staying at Lowry Park Zoo.

The cub, believed to be between 2 and 3 months old, was found alone and burned as crews worked to put out a brush fire last week.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission tried to reunite the bear with its mother, according to WFTV in Orlando. They walked it through the woods and putting it in a crate, hoping she’d catch his scent.

Unfortunately, the FWC determined the chances of the mother returning for him were slim, WFTV reported.

When the cub gets older, he will probably go to facility that can prepare him to return to the wild.
