TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A gunman opened fire in a Tallahassee yoga studio on Friday, injuring seven people before killing himself, police say.

According to the Tallahassee Police department, at 5:37 p.m. on Friday, officers responded to Hot Yoga Tallahassee located at 1950 Thomasville Road in reference to a shooting. When they arrived they found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Emergency responders transported six gunshot victims to local hospitals. Two of the victims passed away at the hospital, another victim is in critical condition and the remaining three victims are in serious condition, hospital officials say. Another victim was pistol-whipped and suffered an injury, police say.

According to police, several people inside the yoga studio at the time of the shooting fought back and tried to not only save themselves — but other people.

"Which is a testament to their courage," the police chief said in a press conference Friday night.

Police say that the shooter was pronounced deceased on scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shooter has not been identified at this time.

Mayor of Tallahassee Andrew Gillum tweeted about law enforcement's quick response to the shooting.
