MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. -- A South Florida family is mourning the loss of an 11-year-old boy who died of coronavirus.
Daequan Wimberly is the youngest person in Florida to die from the virus. His family remembers Daequan as the boy who loved going to church.
His family told ABC-affiliate station WPLG that Daequan was a special needs child "who overcame many obstacles and illnesses."
His family is now pleading the public to wear a mask in the wake of the 11-year-old boy's death.
As of Friday, July 3, more than 7,000 kids 18 and under have tested positive for COVID-19 in Florida, according to the Miami Herald.
A GoFundMe page has been launched to help the grieving family.
