Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested and charged a 19-year-old Seffner man with the murder of a 20-year-old Riverview woman on Tuesday, October 11.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:14 p.m. at the corner of Park Ave. & East Lake Dr. in Seffner. An adult female suffering from a gunshot wound was transported to Brandon Hospital where she was pronounced deceased, according to officials.
The victim was later identified as Destiny Mayes, 20, of Riverview.
Deputies say the suspect, Uthman Jalabi, 19, of Seffner, knew the victim. Jalabi was arrested and charged with first degree murder, kidnapping and tampering with evidence.
Witnesses saw Jalabi fleeing the residence in his brown Crown Victoria and he was located in the area of Woodberry and Falkenburg Road. When deputies caught up to him, they found blood on the driver's door handle and Jalabi admitted to throwing a gun in the wooded area near his vehicle. Deputies recovered the gun, a .38 caliber revolver, and it had one spent casing in the cylinder.
Jalabi told deputies he slapped the victim and kept her from leaving the residence. He also admitted to being in possession of the firearm as well as attempting to get rid of the gun.
The fatal shooting remains under investigation.
