ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 69-year-old man died Thursday after being found partially submerged and unconscious near Gandy Beach.
According to deputies, Sven Torsell was at the beach with two friends when he went into the water and was found half an hour later.
His friends were told by a passing boater that Torsell seemed unresponsive. They found him in the water unconscious with his head partially submerged before pulling him out and calling 911.
When deputies arrived they say paramedics were performing CPR on the victim before he was transported to St. Anthony's Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m.
Deputies say the drowning appears to be an accident, but the investigation continues.
