TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Police Department surprised a young boy with Spina Bifida with a custom made tricycle on Friday.
10-year-old Alexi is bound to a wheelchair and has never been able to ride a bike — until now. Friday he received a customized tricycle he can finally ride. The surprise was a joint effort between the police department, officers and community donors.
The Tampa Police Department's Bike Unit met Alexi and his family at a community event in late April. During the community event, all of his siblings won bicycles to bring home and officers noticed Alexi became distraught when he didn't get one too.
They didn't want his condition to keep him from riding a bike so they sought out a company that specializes in adaptive tricycles for people who are living with physical disabilities.
Alexi will received his brand new tricycle just in time for summer; all thanks to the Tampa Police Department, OnBikes organization, University Bicycle Center and Spectra Health Managment.
