You may be able to fly to Havana straight from Tampa International Airport as early as this fall.
The U.S. Transportation Department has proposed Tampa as one of 10 cities to get the flights to Cuba's capital, the agency announced Thursday. Orlando, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale are among the other cities proposed.

“Today we take another important step toward delivering on President Obama’s promise to reengage Cuba,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a statement. “Restoring regular air service holds tremendous potential to reunite Cuban American families and foster education and opportunities for American businesses of all sizes.”
The DOT is accepting objections to its proposal until July 22. The agency expects to reach a final decision sometime this summer.
Flights to Havana could begin by the end of this year. @USDOT will take comments for the next few weeks before making the final decision.
