Pastor Tom Jones said he could no longer sit by and do nothing after hearing about multiple shooting deaths in East Tampa this summer.

"I had to get out and do something, because I don't want to wait until it's my child in that casket," Jones said.

He joined the group #CommunityUnity. It's a mixture of clergy, teachers and community members. The goal is to send a message of hope to troubled youth.

"With us being united it gives us the opportunity to go out and share and show them that we support what you are doing. We are behind you 100 percent," Pastor Randy Randoph said.

The group plans to hold food drives and mentoring sessions for community members. They are holding a rally Friday night at Robles Park. The event is free to the public.
