Moffitt Cancer Center has received a grant from the National Breast Cancer Foundation to provide a limited number of free mammograms to women in need.
The program is intended to reduce barriers to care and offers the services of a Community Patient Navigator who will be able to navigate patients into screening and treatment if needed. As barriers to access are identified, such as transportation and language needs, the navigator will provide the needed support.
Moffitt says $50,000 of the $126,000 grant is for mammography screenings and ultrasounds. The remaining $76,000 is for navigation services and community education.
Women interested in receiving a free mammogram from Moffitt must meet certain criteria to qualify, which includes insurance and income requirements.
