The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reports 39-year-old Humphrey Felipa of Castleberry is dead after he was hit by an SUV on Bearss Ave east of Livingston Ave. at approximately 12:10 a.m. on Saturday.
Felipa was crossing Bearss Ave, from south to north, on foot, when he was struck by a 2000 Lincoln Navigator which was driving west, according to police.
The driver, 26-year-old Anthony Walter Chaves of Tampa, and his passenger remained at the scene until police arrived. Several witnesses also remained at the scene.
According to police, the area was poorly lit and Felipa was not crossing in a crosswalk or with the use of any other traffic control.
Mr. Felipa was transported to Florida Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Police say there were no signs of impairment.
