Man accused of attacking 'Pinky' the flamingo at Busch Gardens found not competent to stand trial

The Orlando man accused of attacking "Pinky" the flamingo at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay faced a Judge on Friday to rule if he is competent or not to stand trial. 

On Friday, February 17, Judge Barber ruled that Joseph Corrao is not competent to stand trial due to mental illness. 

Corrao was not in court on Friday morning. He is not currently in custody.

His next hearing is set for March 22, 2017.

Corrao is facing a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals stemming from the death of Pinky the pink flamingo on Aug. 2 while visiting Busch Gardens with his family. According to police reports, Corrao reached into an animal pen, grabbed Pinky and slammed her to the ground. She was later euthanized.

Corrao was arrested and released on a $5,000 bond days later.
