Collins is hoping her story inspires her students too, considering she has tried out for the show and didn’t make it.

"I auditioned when I was 16 and when I didn’t get through I was devastated," said Collins.

She is currently teaching them about determination.

"I didn’t get through, I have the kind of mindset that I'm going to be OK. I'm going to go into work the next day and I'm going to be happy and good," said Collins.

As for her students, they are just as excited as her.

“They are stoked beyond belief.  [They say], ‘Oh Ms. Collins were going to watch you on TV!  We're gunna vote for you!"

To audition for American Idol, you must be between the ages of 15 to 28. For more information on auditions in Florida this week, visit abcactionnews.com/idol.
