Health advisories in place at three Hillsborough beaches lifted

TAMPA, Fla. — The health advisories in place at Ben T Davis, Picnic Island and Simmonds Park beaches over a potential bacteria risk have been lifted.

The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County said samples taken August 8 were above the threshold for enterococci bacteria.

The advisories were lifted when re-sampling on August 15 showed that the water is within satisfactory range.

Enterococci bacteria can usually found in the intestinal tracts of humans and animals, according to the health department. In high concentrations, it can cause human diseases, infections or rashes. It can be an indication of fecal pollution from stormwater runoff, pets, wildlife and human sewage.
