Preliminary test results indicate suicide as cause of death in deputy involved shooting

LATEST UPDATE | 12/3/16 4:40pm: Preliminary results from the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office have determined suicide as the cause of death of man who also was shot by a Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy in a Walmart parking lot Friday.

Investigators said Paul Mebane shot himself an instant before the deputy fired.

UPDATE | A 28-year-old man shot by a Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy in the parking lot of a Walmart in Brandon Friday night has died, according to the HIllsborough County Sheriff's Office. 

He was identified as Paul Mebane.

No other information was released.

ORIGINAL STORY | The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is currently on scene of a deputy-involved shooting.

The incident occurred in the entrance way of Wal-Mart on S Gornto Lake Rd in Brandon.

According to officials, the deputy was not injured. The suspect has been transported to a local hospital.
